Gunner is too funny for words...

When I bought Gunner I was under the impression Bull Dogs were lethargic couch potato's and didn't have much energy. He had a lot and as he has gotten older he isn't slowing down any. Well, he is only 7 months old... I have repeatedly asked for a refund, he is all if not any 1000% active.  (kidding)

Last night Gunner pulled the best prank ever... He will stand up at the side of my bed, the couch and not try and do anything. Last night I was at my desk and he came up to my chair so I gave him kisses and then petted him. He got down, looked at me and jumped right up on my WHITE couch. He has never done that, I took him off the couch and back to the floor and he did it again. This went on for 4 or 5 times. I finally covered my couch and put him to bed... This morning, he walked past the couch and looked at it, tugged the cover off and balled the cover up.

Our next chapter is going to be changing his food, with my feet dragging and kicking, I am putting him on my second favorite food... This is really bothering me, but I am sure he will be fine!

Gunner went to the vet and he's fine. Me not so much!

Gunner went to see the amazing Dr. Marks who I am pretty sure thinks I am a nutball. He expertly examined Gunner and observed him in various stages of wack-a-doodle ness and determined it was a fluke event and Gunner is fine. We might have to change his food, but I am protesting, I love BilJac and Gunner has an amazing coat on it.

Now I am not so sure if Gunner was just missing Doc or not. He loves going there, I wonder if I could volunteer there a day a week so I could bring Gunner there for a visit.

Irresponsible Pet owners

I love animals, all animals with the exception of Squirrels, but I would never ever hurt them. The neighbor was a renter and by saying that you would think I dislike renters, which I don't.  This house has been a problem house, but I really liked these neighbors. The Mom ran a tight ship. They had animals, and they appeared to be well cared for. A few more animals than most have, but hey she was a nice lady. One day she comes and tells me her dog had a puppy and they didn't even know it was pregnant. (Her Yorkie I think) the dog looks like a Rotti which she has one... She went to PetsMart and bought a DNA test... Seemed concerned about animals.

So rewind to about a month ago when I was walking my dear Gunner and she mentions they are moving at the end of the month (July). I was sad, she is a nice neighbor, one of the best that have been there, and after last summer with the neighbors from hell, I was happy... But now, oh no, not a good thing.

At the end of last month, I was anxiously watching to see them move and wondered what will happen with this house. Well they didn't actually move at that time, they started the process that has lingered.  However, as of a week ago they left their cats here with food at the door. We have had storms and torrential rains, and I have been crazy nuts over them leaving the cats here. We are in a pickle, do I call the county, they are cool cats, (we can't take them Gunner is not found of them) what to do?

With the economy the way it is and families downsizing, I know this is bound to happen more than not, but seriously, make an effort, talk to people, find homes, don't assume everyone else will care for your left behind animals.

I can't sit by and watch them go hungry or scared, so if you hear of a lady in a shoe with 200000000 cats it's me, and the funny thing is I am allergic to them and my dog no likey...

Gunner is not quite right...

This morning while Gunner was eating, he stopped and left his bowl. When we turned around to look for him he was laying on his back flailing himself choking. Immediately he was picked up and given the swat on the back and he vomited. He was down for the count. He has never done this before and while we watched him most of the day and at his afternoon feeding, he is going to vet tomorrow.

Running to the vet every week is not my style. I do think Gunner has a upper respiratory or something, but on the safe side, I do not want to have any issues with him when we go away in a short while.

Gunner is my life and I love him, he is helpless and cannot speak to say what is going on. I am sure Dr. Marks will have an answer and will fix my baby Gunner.

Saying many puppy prayers for my sweetheart!!!

So much going on for this little bulldog

We have so much going on that I don't know where to start and where to hide. We are moving (maybe soon) we are hosting a party (Mommy is) we are fixing things, buying things, cooking things, having movie night, traveling, packing, and so on and so on... and Daddy 1 had surgery so I have to nurse him back to health. This is a lot for a bulldog my size I want you to know.

Add all this to the fact I have a new cousin I have to keep in touch with ::::WAVING::::: hi Alex in Philly, and Mommy is busy planning my first birf day party in January.

The fact is I need a bigger paycheck for all this and I haven't even mentioned all the fun yet.

Stay tuned I am getting my own tv channel (youtube) and you can see my tricks and stuff.

Happy Hour Friday at my place be there or be without the bestest treats ever!!!

Gunner's house is a mess

The Gunner house, let's face it, he owns everything... is a mess. I am on an emotional roller coaster house hunting, trying to live peacefully and taking care of Gunner. We are not in a perfect setting, we are sort of limited to the outdoor space because of a big CEMENT pond, in some areas of the world they are called a swimming pool. Bulldogs can't swim, and MOST not all don't like the water. BUZZ fail, Gunner has no fear.

So I take him out front on a leash each and every potty break. From 6-7 am to 1-3 am depending on Lord Pain in the Ass' wishes.  I love him dearly but I wonder what was I thinking getting a dog.

So not to be outdone in my stupidity, I go to buy another PUPPY. Not just a puppy, another BULLDOG puppy.  Still living in the same circumstances and still pulling my hair out. While I love and adore this other puppy, it will have as much work needed as Gunner did/does.

Gunner is far too aggressive for my liking, so off to behavior school for him next week. Yes that's right my Bulldog is a mess, a hot mess as Chelsea Handler says. I sort of blame her for his actions because he watched her when he was a wee pup with me at night and I think she's to blame. If he could talk (Gunner) I am sure he was say get me some Vodka bitch... Belevedere only...

So as I head out to buy a house tomorrow, hey stranger things have happened, I will sigh several times as I think of all that mess waiting for me at home. If I don't return home, someone give Gunner some damn Vodka... Thank you very much!!!

What didn't work for Gunner's fast eating...

I have read all along that Bulldogs that eat fast will have problems, so I have been concerned that Gunner would eat to fast. Yesterday afternoon Gunner went out to potty, came in and played hard on da Mommy's bed. He immediately went to eat wherein I noticed he was eating really really fast. So I decided to try the ball in the food dish in lieu of the actual bowl that I do not own as of yet...

NOT the best idea for Gunner. I nearly scarred him for life. He wouldn't even walk past the bowl with half his remaining supper in it. I sat on the floor and hand fed him the balance and coaxed him into eating. It was quite an ordeal. I knew I had to rectify it immediately, so after he finally would go near the bowl I gave him a little more food. He was fine...

This morning, I prepared his breakfast (scooped it out) and put it in the bowl, his short term memory was erased, whew... he was back to normal... What an experience... On our next visit to the vet, I will ask what his suggestions are and if the slow eat bowl will work. Never using the ball trick again...

Went to the dog beach for the first time!

This early morning we loaded the car with Gunner's stuff; car seat, towels, toys, water bowl, water, toys, treats, poopy bags, extra clothes (for him) baby wipes, and a few other non necessary things. So here we go. We drove to Davis Island Dog beach for a morning of fun with the bulldogs. There were about 6 or 7 bulldogs plus a bunch of other dogs.

I kept Gunner on a leash because this was water and his first time ever. I slowly walked him in the area and was greeted by other bulldog owners. They sniffed and pawed each other (the dogs not the owners) and we started our fun.  Gunner met a lot of dogs and had a good time. He is NOT afraid of water and went right in with the big dogs. Scared his Mommy a bit, but we survived. He had a great time and didn't really understand why people thought he was fat. A few said wow he is fat, which he isn't.  He one week shy of being 6 months old and is about 35 pounds or so. He has no fat rolls and is healthy.

As in any group, there are the pickers and we met them. What evs as they say in Hollywood... Gunner is a show dog that clearly stood out in the pack today, he received many oohs and ahhhs and frankly he is a star in my eyes any day of the week.

I was pretty excited to see my dog was healthy, happy and lovable to me...

Not sure we are doing the dog beach again since he has no fears of water, but I can say this, he will be socialized more in the coming weeks!

So busy and then a bit sick again!

We have been so busy and then today,  Mommy gave Gunner the big dogs Milk Bone, now he has poopy butt. He has had diarrhea for a good hour or so and it's bad. I hope my little guy gets better. I cannot tell if it's from the milk bone or the rain. He seems to have rain sensitivity.  So it's sleep with one eye open for us.

I feel bad, I really do...

Sniffles and kisses

Gunner has the sniffles and it doesn't worry me too much because he gives extra kisses. I think he has allergies to something that is blooming. He told me last night he was allergic to the cat and the big dogs. He really wants to be an only dog right now.

I am hoping the sniffles go away but not the kisses, I absolutely love my adoraBULL Gunner kisses... Makes the rest of the world seem so small.

Celebrating LARGE!!! We have a lot to be Thankful for

My big sister from another Mister was thought to have cancer, we have been crossing our paws and praying like crazy for her. Well the BEST Vet called today to say she doesn't have cancer, she has a wicked infection and we will let the meds run it's course and go from there.

It's a huge relief we were so worried about her and on top of it all, we can't imagine our little fur family having this issue. We are blessed and thankful and pray for all the other animals that they get the wonderful results we did.

How do you handle the Fireworks on the 4th with your animals?

Baby Gunner is not fond of loud noises, neither was his 4 legged Father, therefore, I have a scared-ee-cat on my hands. Not to mention the other two 4 legged sisters from another Mister are afraid as well.

I tried benedryl with the Aussies, but it didn't phase them. I also tried the scared shirt and it was more of a hassle for them. My usual was praying for rain, but this year I think over the last week or so we had enough rain thank you...

I don't want to use a medication, I just feel as though too much medication is not good and if the dogs get sick (as one is) their body won't react well to extra meds...

Looking for a suggestion of any kind. My bed is only so big and I would like to have an enjoyable 4th. Over the last 7 years I have been stuck at home curled in my bed with 2 big hairy dogs. Now I could add a third...yikes...

Please send help! LOL

My puppy looks like he is ready for take off...

Today we had errands to run and people to help, so Gunner's play date was canceled. I am not happy I canceled on him, but things happen. Today while playing with him, I snapped this photo and I believe it's time to re-glue his ears. He has developed airplane ears... Not what I am happy about at all.

On a funnier note, baby Gunner has decided he needs to be rocked at night to go to sleep. Problem is, he doesn't weigh 10 pounds anymore, he is quite the BIG boy, and he only fits on half my lap...

Keeping a puppy on schedule.

Keeping Gunner on schedule is hard because at this time in our lives we are trying to buy a new house, travel and do some commitment things we have had planned for a long time. Keeping him on a schedule was very hard and last night proved we have to stop the buses and get back to business.

Gunner has a schedule of his own. He gets up in the 630-715 hour range. Goes out potty and comes back in to start his day.  At 730-745 he eats his breakfast and then plays a little.  He will start the potty break cycle at about 830 or so.

After that he is a sleeping dog until about 1030 or so. He will go back outside and then back to sleep for him. This cycle continues through the day and guess what? He doesn't sleep at night.

At around 300 pm he gets fed again, I know I should stretch it out to 4 pm and I will start doing that today, but it's hard when the other animals are getting fed at 300 pm and he isn't.

We have to schedule in early evening play time and socialization with him because our up all night is not working for me. His bedtime is being readjusted to 11 pm and hopefully we will get back on track.

Let's hope the round mound gets back on track. Mommy needs to sleep more than 1 hour at night...

Home from vacation and Gunner is not sure about me

During my extended trip Gunner was with the sitter who didn't keep him on a schedule and pretty much babied the tar out of him. He on the other hand would disagree.

So I have my work cut out for me, but not today I am going to kiss him and hug him and then tomorrow we will work on going back to a schedule.

It's good to be home!

The humans went to the Dog show without me!

Dear Dog Diary:

The humans in the house went to the dog show today wiff out me. They got up really early, I sort of helped them out with that, since I started barking at 530 AM (sniff sniff)... So I hear dem yapping and saying I couldn't go since I am not registered for this show, but in a couple of months we will be taking the big rig and hitting the shows.

If taking the big rig means I have to ride shotgun, there is gonna be trouble. I don't like riding back there wiff the luggage or sumptin...I'm the Prince, shouldn't I get top riding spot?

Mommy did buy me some cool things at the show, but I heard her yapping about my training classes and me having to walk a ramp. NOW wait a minute, no one said nuffin bout no ramp or me going to classes.

Mommy did tell me that my 4 legged Daddy is now a Champion! Woot!! I am sending him a present...speaking of presents...On second look of da things my Mommy bought, it looks like those nasty ropes she uses and a gold chain. Wait a second, I am not MR T!

Back to napping this is too much for me.

This is the sleepingest puppy I have ever seen

Gunner is the sleepiest puppy still at almost 5 months old. He brings the toys in his crate, flips his bed over to the rough side and scooches in and goes to sleep... What a awesome puppy and the joy, love and affection he gives.!

Wonderful Wednesday we went Shopping ....

We went for our weekly shopping trip and let's just say Gunner was a bit demanding. At one point I think I heard him say, "fill this up with toys and no one gets hurt"... I could have imagined it, but I don't think so.

Once inside the PetsMart, he was a star. People stopped and  petted and played with him, which already swelled his big head anyway.

We picked up a new collar and leash, a few toys to chomp around on, and some nom nom treats (BilJack) overall it was a very productive day. Life as Gunner isn't too bad!

Tuckered out Tuesday...

Gunner and Mommy are staying in today doing some much needed catching up on emails, phone calls and bill paying. However, we will sneak in a little cuddle time and online shopping. Gunner needs a few new things...

Happy Tuesday ... join us virtually for Yappy Hour drinks at 8:00 p.m.

People medicine vs Pet Medicine what's the difference?

I had a cause to use some Immodium AD for my baby last week when he was sick with diarrhea. I generally don't use over the counter meds with the exception of benedryl  on occasion with the other furkids... I have raised/showed horses, cows, pigs, rabbits, dogs, birds, turtles and a cat here and there since I was 3 years old.  Many home remedies have been used during my 40 plus years and I didn't run to the vet for every little snafu.

Gunner is a change of life baby I think. I am more cautious with him, I am guarded with him, and I am acutely aware he is a 4 legged animal, however, he has restrictions that none of my other animals/mammals had.

When I took him to the vet, she said it was ok for temporary and gave me some stuff to use at home for now and in the future.  This sparked a huge debate.

Many argue the medicine doesn't know where it's going. Dr. D was great she didn't say you shouldn't use it, she said temporarily it was ok. I believe she was shocked I would be so concerned, but I revert back to BullDogs are new to me, and  I had the poop scared out of me the day I bought him, even though I slightly researched (LOL)...

So to get an impartial opinion, I called upon my trusty semi-retired spoiled me rotten vet to give it to me straight so I could effectively explain and his response was priceless...

His first sentence of the explanation was "Vet's say not to use human medicine so they can charge you more for rx's that say Pets only"... He was clearly kidding and why I love him so much.

Then he explained as did Dr. D that there is no way of knowing how long "human over the counter medicine" lasts in a pet's system. How you dosed an animal, what is in the medicine that could react to the dog or specific breed (i.e. Australian Shepherds or any Shepherd breed have issues with some Pet Meds too, heart worm pills, blood issues)...

Never give aspirin or pain meds that we take, tylenol, motrin because it messes up their stomachs, so much I learned from Dr. D and my semi retired vet who has spoiled me rotten for 40 plus years...

Using the home remedies I know still work, and I needed to relax, using common sense and having a good dialogue with the Vet is paramount.

So while everyone thinks I am crazy for not wanting to use the over the counter stuff on Gunner, in a pinch I may, but 99% of the time, I will default to the Vet.

I would hate to overdose my baby Gunner.

Puppy safe the house and yard.

In Florida this past week we have had a large amount of consistent rain. This has not set well with my bulldog puppy, it has also not sat well with the bulldog Mommy.  All kinds of things are coming out of the wood work.

Today I spent a good amount of time checking the yard specifically for things that could harm the animals. One being frogs, dead or alive. This is a daunting task since we have a few foreclosures around us and the cuban tree frogs breed like rabbits. Also, the wild mushrooms that grow when it rains really bad.

Inside, I decided to double check to make sure no creepy crawlers were inside, wires were not exposed so the little teethers had nothing to gnaw on...Because Gunner man is getting some big teethers in YEAH!!!!

While at it, I put together our Hurricane information packet and pretty much realized I am consumed with this dog.

Safety first I say, but in honesty this was a really good accomplishment. I want to protect my animals as well as prepare for anything that could come up. I feel we will get a hurricane this year and I want to be safe.

Also, I restocked the flashlight batteries and decided to buy a kit this year... Hopefully I am over preparing, but you can never be too careful.!

Gunner the super star... in his mind

Sitting at the Vet, where he should have been feeling ill (faker, flirt, lover of the vets) he was posing as only he does... This was his I'm a super star pose.

What do you do when your furbaby is sick?

My Gunner is sick again. He never has accidents in the house. He has diarrhea. I have stopped all food and only giving water, I just gave him a half of Imodium AD tablet. He is resting, but we are on 24 hour watch with him until the Vet opens.

I did break down and call the emergency vet, but I hesitate to take him. He has energy, is alert, playing being himself except for the poopies...

What do you do? I have read give him canned pumpkin, but I am not sure.

I hate this!!!

Gunner survived the sitter...

Gunner's Mommy went away for a few days to visit family out of state. Gunner did ok, but Mommy did not. When the Mom returned he was grown up almost. No more baby whines, no more soft kisses. Plus, I think he liked the sitter better.

Glad to be home to squeeze the little suckers lips!

Wicked Wednesday...

Today Gunner had a relaxing day, no work schedule, only dealing with Mommy's nerves and pacing. She is closing a deal as she said and the little jerks aren't playing nice with others.

So I played in my room for a while and I chased the cat. Other than that, it's been couching it and chew up bones...

Terrific Tuesday or New Toy Tuesday

Today is Tuesday... and that means Mommy shops for me... We got a few new bones and 4 new squeakies... So here I am having a few nibbles on my bones...

Memorial Day For the Dogs at War...

https://www.facebook.com/puppyrescuemission  Gunner and I would like to encourage everyone this Memorial Day to donate and participate in the Puppy Rescue Mission.

As we sat around today counting Gunner's toys, we realized how fortunate we are and how much love he has brought to my life. Think of the Dogs at War. This is a very worthy cause and We are 500% behind it.

Here is their Mission statement:  The primary mission of Puppy Rescue Mission is to fundraise and assist various organizations which help soldiers bring their furry friends home from war. While PRM's primary mission is to assist soldiers and their furry friends, PRM will also, from time to time, assist an organization in rehoming a stray animal.

Our soldiers deserve this and the dogs they find do as well.

My donation's are going to be in my families names that served, and I ask you to do the same. Not a lot, but a little to know they are not forgotten. !

Paws up! Gunner

Dog Treats! What do you feed?

When I got Gunner his breeder sent home a bag of treats and food for us. Because he went to my sisters house first, I didn't have them. Then Gunner took the scenic tour of staying with my nephew for the first three weeks. When I got Gunner to my house he didn't have those treats, and frankly I was not sure I was going to use treats/food as positive reinforcement. Well, I caved and bought a few treats... One being my favorite to use BilJak and then I bought the Iams little bones. Gunner has had a few issues with any other treats other than Milk Bones regular and BilJak.

I like treating him because he has really responded well to it, but I am afraid of trying anything new, that is the cause of his diarrhea incidents...

I am thinking of making him treats, but I have to do more research and play around with it... Anyone have any suggestions out there?

Mommy is beyond exhausted.. She is also lost...

My post about the Belmont today should show how out of whack I really am. Gunner's Mommy has hit the wall. I can't tell what day it is, and I am in severe need of R & R....

So incase you bet on my account, please know it's 2 more weeks away... Calgon please come take me away.

Friday was uneventful in the Gunner house...

Gunner had bedrest all day and took advantage of it. He rested in the ice cold air condition and relaxed... Mommy had a hectic day, but Gunner stayed home snoozing... I heard Gunner tell the Puppy Nurse, I hope Mommy finalizes a house very soon, she is a bundle of nerves...

Gunner is not feeling good ;-(

Last night, Gunner was sleeping so soundly in his crate liner outside the crate. We decided to wake him, take him outside and put him back in bed. He was in bed for about 20 minutes or so, I hear some noise I haven't heard before and I smell something. He had explosive diarrhea.  I immediately cleaned him/ the crate, the floor up, and took him outside. I checked on him all night long. This morning he has it again, not in the house, but outside when I took him to go potty.

He is going on liquids only until I can call the vet. Normally I might not call the vet but... it's Memorial Day weekend and I do not want to get stuck going to an after-hours vet. Crossing paws he's ok...

Going to see the Breeder today...

I am nervous. I feel like we are going to the Principal's office or something. Gunner hasn't seen his birth Mom since March 17th. We like to keep in touch with her and today she is showing us how to make his ears right, and hopefully show me how to convince him to stop biting his leash and my right leg.

Gunner pictures are going to be added today, hopefully we can see his Daddy and see how much he looks like his Daddy...

Edited we went and she did this...  We are calling him Princess Leia or Prince Leia...

Wacky Wednesday isn't going as planned

Mommy went shopping (as only Mommy does) and I got a little sick in my bedroom (crate). I got a bubble bath with my squeaky toys and I played in my pool to dry off. Mommy called in the big guns and I got me two 2 Care takers besides Mommy... I am a lucky puppy... My sisters Shelby and Brandi are worried cause my belly was making noises, but they are keeping an eye on me too. Brother Simba is just glad he has the whole house to himself, I am in my bedroom and he is free!

So all in all, I have two Daddys, two sisters, one brother cat and one Mommy taking care of me... Life is good!

It's Wacky Bull Dog Wednesday!

I made it through the vet as did brother Simba. He get's his test results back tomorrow, so cross your paws please...

Today is Wacky Wednesday because we have a lot of doggie things planned. Mommy and friends are going to a kennel club meeting and I am going to go have a play date I think... This afternoon we are having a pool time and hopefully it will be as fun as it is when I am in there dry....

Happy Wednesday Bull Dog peeps...

Tuesday, May 22, 2012

Mommy and I are going to the Vet to see Dr. Marks for my final puppy shots and my rabies vaccine. We are taking brother Simba with us because he isn't feeling good lately. So we have a double appointment. Mommy is very worried about the vet.

I hope I get to go to the PetsMart for new toys today... Crossing paws for Simba the cat, my brother from another Mother.

Hello Monday...

This weekend was action packed. After Saturday's photo session with Miss Laura I slept all day. Sunday, Mommy took me on an adventure. We went house hunting, visiting and I met a girl <swoon>...

Mommy says we have to make sure she has a background check cause I can't play with just anyone. Today is low key, getting a bath and trimmed up for the Vet appointment tomorrow... I will come back with my new bath and shave with a picture...

The BEST Pet Photographer EVER!!!!!

We went for our photo session with www.lauraallenstudios.com  http://www.lauraallenstudios.com/mp_includes/body.asp All I can say is HOLY COW she was AMAZING. Gunner flirted with her for a few minutes and got overly excited. She took the most amazing pictures EVER. She is the best pet photographer I have ever seen. Miss Laura (as Gunner called her) was very professional but very kind and friendly, not stuffy at all. She has one class act operation. Very personable and very diligent in getting the right shot without wasting a lot of time.

This is going to be our photographer for life, what an amazing time we all had... Paws and licks from Gunner!!!!

It's picture day for Gunner...

Today is picture day for Gunner. We are headed to the mobile studio in Davis Island today to sit with Laura Allen Studios. http://www.lauraallenstudios.com/mp_includes/body.asp We are excited and cannot wait to go. If allowed I will post pictures of our adventure.

Do you have professional photos taken of your four-legged babies?

His fears keep mounting... what to do?

As I mentioned, Gunners Dad was scared of everything his breeder told me, but I was sure I could win my puppy over to the non-fear side. First was the episode at PetsMart with the walking through the door. Next came the rain and now... it's everything makes him jump. I spent a good 15 minutes trying to coax him into walking outside to do his business. Then a car zoomed past and he was all shook up.

As much as I love my little guy, and I truly do, his little nut ball ways drives me crazy.

First time ever in rain...

Last night the first and worst rainfall happened since owning Gunner. Not to mention I am sick, he's fear of the rain was a little shocking. His Father (the four-legged one) was scared of everything. I was seriously hoping he would not get this trait. When he got in the water he was like WHAT THE HECK???? All night last night it rained, even into the morning. I tried waiting up to see if it had stopped so I could take him out, but he would have no part of it.

It did make him sleep through the night, but going potty outside was a real chore. We had to take two tours of the yard, once in the front and then he couldn't hold it any longer, we went right to the back yard and he was able to finally relieve himself.

After morning cleanup, I was never so glad to see the sun come up, my baby is not a rain dog, this is going to be interesting...

Mommy is sick and I am nappy while she rests

My Mommy was up most of the night hacking and coughing, I hope she gets better. I will be in the Man Cave doing man things while she goes to the doctor and rests. If anyone needs me, I'll be watching Sports and snoring. Paw to the Power!

Mommy is upset, she found a flea and off to the vet I went...

This morning I was doing my morning cuddle on Gunner, where I wipe his face and body down with a wet wash, I play with his ears and his belly and scratch and brush him.  Everything was good, nothing out of place, the toes were clean, the ears, everything... Imagine at 2:55 p.m. when I was rubbing his belly getting ready to cook for him (ok really just put his food in the bowl, but to some that's cooking)... I found a flea!!! A very baby flea, but a flea nonetheless... I called my vet http://www.turkeycreekvets.com/ in a sure fire panic and asked oh my what to do... I am scheduled for next week for his shots and I was going to put him on the new heartworm preventative that included fleas, ticks and mange. Rest assured I was calmed down by Susie putting me on hold, checking with the vet and saying come on in and get some Comfortis for now. Oh by the way, can you weigh him or just bring him in.

Off I rushed to get the Flea Be Gone magic pill and I drug the big lug with me. I first weighed him, which I did not like adding 23.5 pounds to my own weight, but I was shocked he was that big. I took him with me so they could verify his weight and I didn't mess up. This is my baby and all. Sure enough he tips the scales at 23.5 pounds. When I bought him he was 10 pounds. Where did my small fuzzy puppy go...????

Susie weighed him and sure enough, the big lug is 23.5 pounds. We got the magic flea be gone pill and rushed right back home to eat our dinner and take our pill. While he is taking his after dinner nap, I will begin to re-treat the yard in the front and then tomorrow morning re-treat the back, plus treat the house.

Fleas and I do not get along. They are a danger to my baby and I do not want to live with them...

Many thanks to the my Vet and Susie for helping me solve the problem...

Pet Insurance... do you or don't you...

When I bought my bulldog baby, I will admit it was on a whim. I was actually searching for my oldest nephew. I had placed a few deposits on bullys prior for him and it wasn't the best time. This time it could be... but I saw this little boy and fell in love. My background was in Old English Mastiff's and the polar opposites, Shih Tzu's...

So you can imagine my shock with all the health issues I read about. But I didn't care, through all that I read, I loved those crinkled smushed faces more than anything...HOWEVER... with that said, I joined the bulldog boards and quickly read about the expenses and the multiple surgeries, not if they had them, it was when...

So I started comparing Pet Insurance. Boy how confusing and detailed. One covers this and one covers that. If you call your (my) baby an English Bull it was more money, I didn't realize that until after I signed up. If they are microchipped there is a discount, and so on and so on.

What it boils down to is how much are you willing to pay for a copayment and how much do you want to pay a month.

Trupanion was interesting because they kept telling me that they covered acupunture and holistics, while Pet Plan had a set limit of 20,000 per year and deductibles I could live with. I liked both and I spent a lot of time on the telephone with each of them trying to pin point which was better for us. I am not anticipating anything, but I want to be prepared. I love my little man and I want to be able to provide for him forever. I would hate to think I would have to make a decision based on money.

While Gunner is certainly my baby and the star of this world, his well being is my most important job as a Woof Mommy...

After choosing Pet Plan I thought what if I made a mistake, what if there were better plans, cheaper plans, and so on... But their welcoming letter, all the forms needed and the feeling I just bought a little peace of mind was worth it.

Hopefully we will never use it..but if we do need it, it's there...

Happy Mommy's day!

This was one of the best Mommy's days I have had in a long time. Never having kids, I have relied on the love and affection of my four(4) legged animals. This year my puppy came into my life when it was most needed and let me say this, he is the light of my life. As you can imagine with any new Mommy's people get tired of the "Gunner" pictures or stories. I have no shame, I am whipping his picture out in check out lines and full on bragging to how smart my little guy is. But most of all, he loves me, good/bad/ugly. He makes me want to be a better person.

Through all the turmoil he is right there beside me every step of the way and I love him more than I thought I could. I am a very detached person and this puppy has captured my heart and soul...

So for Mother's Day today, the men have assisted Gunner in spoiling me. I had barkfast in bed, a shopping trip that yielded toys and clothes for the baby (Gunner) and tonight is a big deal, big dinner and a night at the casino... stay tuned Gunner got a new skateboard and we are going to try and accomplish it tonight after the sun goes down a bit...

Gunner and Mommy had a very good day!

Mommy was able to clip Gunner's nails by herself. He was excellent and he was really easy to clip. No blood, no tears and Mommy was relaxed.

Tomorrow is pool time and we cannot wait. I have my new swim trunks, and I am excited...

Gunner is getting professional pictures taken...

I feel like we are going to kindergarten with my little boy. His appointment has been scheduled for his official studio portraits...What to wear what to wear... Mommy hopes his new Phillies shirt makes it in time. We go next Saturday May 19th.  Gunner has sent an invite to his sister Lady Maggie to see if she wants to get her picture taken too... It will be a blast to see how much they have changed since they left the breeder on March 17th.

Cannot wait to see my baby in print!

Shopping trip was not as successful as we planned

Gunner opted to stay home from this trip today. He was too busy playing in his play area and didn't want to be disturbed. So I headed to the store without him. I picked up a few things for his friends too... When I got back with all the goodies, one of the bones for his friend was lost after giving it to her and her sister looked innocently on as we searched everywhere.

I miss taking Gunner with me to the store because he loves the interaction. I am planning a Mommy and Me day with him next week to hopefully make up for it.

Friday means Pet shopping

Friday's have become special days for Gunner and Mommy. We generally go shopping for something new and pick up treats and things. Tomorrow we are going to shop a little for BilJac the dog food we have officially switched over to. Plus we need some poopy treats and more wipes Mommy keeps handy for clean ups.

Gunner has been a really good boy considering all his life changes. We are very blessed to have him. Now when he is barking as he is right now, I am wondering why I didn't get a Basenji, you know the kind of dogs that do not bark.

Hopefully once we are all moved into our forever home, he will be more settled. However, this little trooper is a real gem and I am sincerely grateful to my nephew and his bride-to-be for taking care of him for a short while when I bought him.

I know Gunner will have a playmate as soon as they get settled into their new house and we can have a big bull dog family.

Making a list now for Friday shopping...

Totally Thursday yeah...

Tonight was a good night, Mommy went out for a while and I had a sitter. As she was saying her "so longs" to me, I was sitting here waiting for her to go so I could torment the cat and the sitter. How much trouble do you think I can get into tonight???

Not the best morning

Got up really early to take Gunner to get a shampoo and nail clipping. We had a coupon from PetsMart with our puppy pack and I thought what the heck. I will just remind them no water in the ears, please do not tie him by his neck and love and kiss him.

When we got there, it was a total freak out. Gunner who proudly walks through every door he encounters would not go through the door, he literally wrapped around me and tied me up in the leash freaked out a bit. Once inside, I asked to speak to the person who was going to wash him and reluctantly a girl behind the counter said "well I guess it's going to be me"...I quickly explained no water in his ears please, and please do not tie him at the neck. She said yeah ok.  As I handed him over, I felt uneasy. It was the weirdest feeling and I slowly walked out. As we were walking to the car (Daddy 1 and I) I saw another worker coming in and asked if a manager was on, she asked what was going on, and maybe she could help.

I explained that I was nervous and that the shampoo person seemed nonchalant, she said she understood and she would look at my puppy. She said she would feel the same exact way.  I told her I was concerned about him being tied around the neck and she said that is their policy they have to neck tie them. I said that is not what I was told. Inside there was a full staff looking at me like I was crazy, and one particular woman was giving me a very dirty look. I decided my puppy was worth more than me kicking her ass all over the place.

They brought him back to me, and as he came back to my arms there were tears from him and I both. Once in the car  he sat on my lap lovingly kissing my face and very cuddly as if to say it's ok Mommy I still love you. He snuggled up to my chest and just hugged me so tenderly. My puppy forgave me. His hugs are usually more rough.

My gut instinct is often on point and this time, I think I made the right decision. So very hard being a Mommy...

Hello Saturday - It's Derby Day!

Mommy and I are going to be glued to the tv somewhere watching the race. She had plans to go to the "track" but she is opting to stay home with me and have a little Kentucky Bourbon she says. Her bets are placed and now all that is left is to wear our fancy hats and wait for the horsey's to bring the money. Mommy say's I need new shoes...

Friday cannot get here fast enough!

It's been a rough week and I am ready for Friday. Mommy is taking me to the hair place for a little shoo poo and a little massage I am told. I hope they don't tickle me because I will weee all over them.

Hopefully when we are in our new house I can play with all the stuff my Mom keeps buying me, I can't wait to crawl in the tunnel she bought at Ikea and swim in my Gunner Da Man pool.

T.G.I.F. (Thank Goodness it's Friday and I get spoiled on Friday's)...

After going to the vet Friday, I have been taking it easy this weekend. Which means, I have been staying in and relaxing. I wasn't able to do my commercial shoot but Mommy say's this week maybe. I don't know how I will fit my head in the crate after I become a star <smooch>

Just went to visit Dr. Marks, my belly was upset and Mommy wanted me to make sure I was ok for this big weekend. I got a clean bill of health, but I don't get to eat any treats or dinner tonight. I hope this fixes things, 'cause I love my food and treats!!!

Hello World... I am three months old and loving life

Hi my name is Gunner and I am a three month old male puppy. I live in Florida but my Mommy keeps me very cool so I don't overheat. I have a littermate/sister that is my Mommy's sister too, and we love to play and rough house. Her name is Lady Maggie...

I am counting down the days until I hit the show ring to strut my stuff. I just love people and can't wait to meet everyone.
