Halloween Costume Party! October 29th 2013

Our party is going to be great! It doesn't cost a thing, but I am hoping you might donate to our BuckeyeBulldog Rescue dog Lola. http://www.buckeyebulldogrescue.org/lola.html

The prizes are going to be great! Top prize is a portrait prepared by Artistic Bulldog. That is reason alone to enter !!! Plus other categories will get good prize packs too. I would love to keep all the prizes but my Mom say's its for our friends.

If you don't remember; Lola came to Buckeye Bulldog Rescue after being dropped at a kill shelter when her parents passed away. She came to the foster family with many health issues that are quite costly! If you can donate anything, they would be so appreciative. I am sponsoring this party and all the prizes for my friends to celebrate Halloween and see each other in our finest! Here is Lola's link http://www.buckeyebulldogrescue.org/lola.html

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact my secretary (Mommy) at my email: GunnerthisGunsforHire@gmail.com

Sincerely,

Gunner aka boyfriend to Sugar Lump

Bulldogs and traveling...

Why not just pack a bag and go away with your bulldog. One might ask is there any difference in traveling with another breed type. The answer is YES YES YES.

First and foremost, when hotels hear you are bringing a bulldog they first squint their noses and then say we don't allow big dogs. Hello, it's me down here, a little guy.

Second, we cannot travel in little cute carriers like other breeds, unless we are in the wee puppy stages.

Thirdly, temperature really matters to us, because we have push faces and our breathing isn't so great.

So to travel with the bulldog it takes some planning. Do we drive, do we fly, do we stay home or do we go and leave the dog home. Most would probably go with option go and leave the dog home, we are not the normal. As clearly demonstrated in our previous posts.

We call ahead, find a local vet that is in the area so we can avoid middle of the night panic calls to our vet 1000 miles away. Next we pack a comfort pack with; treats, toys, bones, nom noms, wipes, water bottles and a small first aid kit. Then we pack his travel bag that consists of food, clothes (yes I wear clothes don't judge me) towels, extra water bowls, a small wind up clock, harness, collars, leads, socks and alcohol for Mommy. Now the hardware so to speak, stroller, crates, bedding, night-lights and story books. This is a great process.

Now lets fly... OMD you cannot take 95% of what I have listed above.

The list of what it takes to make this bulldog travel wears me out. We traveled, we came home and I want to go to bed for 100 hours.

Halloween Costume Party finalized.

Here it is!!! If you are interested in a Halloween Costume party on October 29th, 2013; this is the most accurate information you will find.

We are going to have judging in five (5) categories. Please see the side panel for categories.

I spoke with a few Twitter people and they told me that they only want the prizes from the categories, not the individual treat bags mailed to their houses. So I am putting up a poll to find out. If I get a majority of yes votes I will send out treats like I did for the birthday party. Please vote in the poll.

Beginning next week I will post pictures of the Prize packages so you can see what you are hopefully going to win.

Happy Fall Day!!!!

Something about Rescues...

With English Bulldogs being in the top 10 dog breeds of popularity, it also comes with a curse. Those little wrinkly puppies that are so cute, are SO MUCH WORK.  Our breed is very high maintenance and can be costly. More often than not, if a bulldog is surrendered or given away it is because of medical issues or the fact that someone just can't take care of them.

Specific breed rescues run into the problem of funding, fostering and re homing. Most want that bright shinny new puppy, because they want to watch them grow. Fundraising for rescues is a difficult situation because you are having to pay for medical services that a bulldog (or any other breed of dog) was neglected and sometimes the issues are compounded.

When you see the rescues online, in the paper, and other social media outlets, it sort of tugs at your heart. Some think someone will definitely help that dog out (or cat). I was guilty of that as well. I didn't really think my involvement would help. How wrong I was. By thinking someone else will help, kept me from helping a truly needing animal.

A few good friends of mine have been fosters and have rescued animals. The unconditional love they give is amazing. Rescues have a few quirks, but in reality wouldn't you if you were left off at a shelter, or taken to a vet and never picked up?

The expense of a foster is something many aren't willing to take on. Even if the rescue can offer assistance, it's never the total cost. There is no federal fund for taking in animals.

Personally, I foster 5 animals Vet costs. While they do not live with me, they do visit me and I do cover their medical and living expenses for families.

Rescue Organization are usually all volunteer. They have a huge task at hand with once the rescue is medically cleared, getting someone checked out, to make sure this little angel isn't shuffled again. The process is not an easy one, I openly admit I didn't understand all the levels that were needed for this process.

If you can help, please do. 5-10-20-50-100 or whatever you can do is really a huge help.

What if you can't donate dollars, can you help organize a fundraiser? Can you work with a group of people getting the word out?

It's not secret a new foster has come into our lives. One of our bulldog friends' families has accepted a little lady that is in bad shape. She has a lot of love and life left in her. She adapted very well to their household, but she has several issues to get ironed out. The expenses are pretty steep. We are doing an effort to raise funds for her, I hope we succeed.

If you are able, please go to http://www.buckeyebulldogrescue.org/lola.html

Crazy weekend of junk...

I had some plans to go to the water park, but the ball and chain otherwise known as my Mommy wasn't feeling it. Actually she is forcing herself to have fun, laugh, not cry and so on.

You can imagine my disappointment and all that junk, but my place is with my aging, pained Mother. Although, since she was having another day from hell, she gave me a pass for a few hours and I wooped it up in my room with my new bone. Lordly I live on the edge.

So I stayed in and messed with my websites and stuff. I am trying to get the word out about my buddy Rocco's newest sisfur Rescue. She has a ton of medical stuff needed and it's BONE money expensive. I am trying to get some buddies interested in donating. If you are interested please donate...

Give Back Friday!!! Here it is... Please read...

Why we do what we do... We love our animals, and we love unconditionally. Our friend Rocco just picked up a beautiful little girl that was minutes from death. Her family died and she was shoved aside.

None of us I know would stand for that. However, taking on a Rescue is sometimes costly and let's face it, work. I can't help out with the work part, but I know we can help out otherwise. Rescues today are stretched so thin financially and volunteer wise, it saddens me.

Our announcement is this... Our Halloween party is going to be a fundraiser. We have spoke to
Bethel Community Pet Hospital and they have a Good Samaritan fund they maintain for hardships, or rescues.

After speaking with them, they have started a Lola fund. I am sending them a check myself, and I hope any and all can pitch in any amount. NO MONIES will be sent to me, this goes straight to the Animal Hospital.

I have never tried so hard to give money to any organization as I have with some bulldog rescues. By going direct, we can give as little or as much as we want, and know it only goes to the care of the animal.

Please understand Rocco does not know about this, however, once I found out his Vet had a standing Good Samaritan fund, I was sold!!!!!

Halloween will be the same, I just ask if you want to be a part of it, send me an email and send a donation to the following. Let's help ALL BULLDOGS!!!!!!!

Bethel Community Pet Hospital, LLC.

Why do we do what we do, for???

Tomorrow we are making a huge announcement and I hope every single one of you will get on board.

I am not asking for myself, I am fine and fit and all that... But I want to do a small project and would love and need your help.

Tomorrow is give back Friday, and while I know things are tight everywhere, (here included) I want to go back in time and remember why we do what we do...

Rocco's having a vet procedure today

We all know our beloved Bulldog friend Rocco. His twitter name is @BulliedDog. We just celebrated his birthday 18 or so days ago.

He is going to the vet at 3:20 p.m. http://bethelvet.com/ For his procedure. His Vet's office will be live tweeting so we all are kept up what's happening with our bestie.

Please stop by and show support for Rocco@BulliedDog on Twitter. We ask for many #pawprayers for him and for the Vet doing the procedure.

He has a posse' of followers and we hope he knows how much he and his family is loved.

Thanks!

The accident just keeps getting worse.

Today I kissed Mommy goodbye when she left for physical therapy. I expected her home in an hour so we could play Mommy and Me games. We like to sit in the yard for a little while and I roll my ball around. She watches me, it's our fun time.

However today she came home later than usual and very upset crying. Seems they found a tumor/lump on her vertebrae. She doesn't go to the doctor until almost 5 o'clock.

That was the latest she could get so she didn't miss Rocco's surgery. We need to be there for moral support.

Please keep Rocco and Mommy in your thoughts and prayers.

The lumps are ok.

Yesterday we loaded up the Mommy car for a drive to the vets. The day before Mom noticed a couple of lumps in an odd place on my neck. Worried, she called the vet and we went in.

He took a small sample from the big scary looking one and scraped the other areas. I assumed he was looking for mange. Mom confessed she scratched my ear to see if my rear foot moved (that's how you can tell if its Sarcoptic mange, which is the worst its CONTAGIOUS)

He laughed at her and said, you did right, that's how you tell.

Last night Mommy gave the medications she was instructed to give, even put them in a pill pocket. Which for the record is da hot diggity BOMB !!! I tried to jump on the counter and get more.

My vet sent the samples off to an outside lab because he was unsure of what it could be. We were expecting the results Thursday.  Around 1:40 p.m. the call came. Mommy was really scared to answer it. It was HIM. He asked how the patient was and then said everything is fine. He explained I was probably right thinking the collar created an irritation and cyst. Now to keep taking the medicines.

I heard Mommy ask him, does this antibiotic have any energy stimulation's because her little puppy (ME) was like a house on fire with energy, which I don't need any help in that area.He laughed and said no.

So no more collars??? Yippee!!! Now just harnesses and those little tiny necklaces those fancy pants wear when they go to those show places. It's cool, I am down with being collarless. I wouldn't mind the freedom.

Thanks to my friends that worried with me, you mean the world!

My behavior isn't very good

I am an only child. A spoiled only child. My pawrents had guilt for leaving me my first three (3) weeks with someone else. They over compensated me, let me do whatever. Which is kind of odd because my Mom's other dogs were raised obedient.

I have always walked on a leash, but I pull her, I don't really listen and she didn't do much with me in the way of obedience because I have the cutest face around. Plus add the guilt, and she is a marshmallow. Some of her dog friends cannot believe how I just do my thing.

Well it came to an end on Friday. She put a show collar on me, put the leash on and WALKED ME out the front door. I do not like the front door. She was not having it anymore! So we walked to the mailbox and didn't get in a car, I was furious. If you are walking me, I better be getting in a car!!! I was so mad at her. She spun me around, and back we went through the front door which I hate even MORE.

My push over Mommy is not playing anymore. I am sad! Come Saturday, she decided she would bathe me. I usually get dropped off at the barbershop, what's going on? Why do I need a bath at home? Talk around the dinner table was I didn't really behave the last time at the barbershop, so Mommy was going to work with me.

We both got wet, but I proved not to be that sweet little puppy she use to put in the kitchen sink. Unfortunately for me, she is a horse person, and I am a midget version that didn't stand a chance.

Today she was changing off my regular collar to do a little Mommy and Me time and found a lump. At first she thought it was an irritation, but now on feeling it and taking a picture of it, she found it was hard about the size of a quarter.

Right now I am collar-less and not sure about all that, but I hope my behavior changes fast and my lump is nothing.

I have a feeling I am headed to bootcamp. Yikes... Cross your paws for me please.

Taking your Pet on Vacation

Mommy went on a cruise last week and although she missed me like crazy, she came back saying some strange things. For one, she loves me with all her heart (except bath day), however, she would never want to take me on a cruise. I cannot for the life of me wonder why. I love to be with Mommy all the time.

On her cruise there was a dog. It was suppose to be a service dog. She didn't take a picture because she said that is what they wanted. It was a pudgy mix pug and maybe a Jack Russell. It was about 11 years old, wore sunglasses and clothes. (now we can't say anything bad about that), but it was small and it was sort of strange. Well the owner was. He paraded it everywhere. Announced it was on it's 10th cruise. I am guessing it was an emotional support animal. It fell asleep a lot. Many people were really put off by the dog even being there. The final straw was at dinner. They made him take him out after the owner placed the dog on the table.

We are in total support of service animals. Strongly believe in their rights to be everywhere. With that said, we are shocked at the type of animal, the type of atmosphere and how it was handled.

Taking our pets on vacation has been an iffy subject. We do go to a special resort that is geared to dogs. Thanks to our pal Deuce, we now check for room service on every excursion we plan.

Today we were booking a trip to the mountains, and they are Dog friendly, but you can't leave the dog in the room. Not even for dinner. I guess we're not going to the mountains.

Would you take your Pet on vacation, or is it easier leaving them home? I love being with my Mommy but I like staying home too...

Friday the 13th...

We like to be positive and look to the positive in any situation. Drama and negatives do not sit with us too well. Mommy makes me say my prayers every night and every morning we say one thing that is positive and one thing we are grateful for. Now, my Mommy is not a religious nut. She is just a person that has her beliefs and does one random act of kindness each day. Unfortunately, I haven't those skills so I give her random kisses daily because that is what she likes best from me.

We are grateful for Friday the 13th because we can wear black that is oh so slimming and no one will think we are too outlandish. On our positive note; today is a good day because it's F R I D A Y! Regardless the date on the calendar, it's a great day.

Did you know today is National "Blame it on someone else day?" So all the calories Mommy eats is Daddy's fault. Bark out loud!!!

On to fun stuff. We are really getting excited about Halloween and our little costume party. Our favorite artist will be doing a rendering for the top prize winner. Please check out her etsy spot. Her talents are endless!!!

We are off to travel today, where-ever the clouds take us we will be happy because we are together on this sunny day.

Bulldog special items

I have been asked where did I get some of the stuff we have of Bulldogs. Specifically, the artwork is by Artistic Bulldog  www.etsy.com/shop/artisticbulldog.

Have you wondered why you trust your dog over a human???

Click this link...

The folks over at www.theuncommondog.com have the above article that explains it! Hey there's pictures too!

For some of these reasons listed in the article is why I trust dogs over humans. Later today I will expound a little.

But I trust Gunner with my life because he is the most caring, thoughtful, non-judgmental creature on this planet.

Bulldogs bring out the best and worst in people

Often we see people that say oh how cute. Or are they so ugly only their parents will love them? Our answers are not very nice, we wouldn't say that about your 2 legged kids.

Most everyone loves a bulldog puppy, the wrinkles and sweet smiles really win you over. As they get older, they are still pretty cool and most people always say to us, I would love to have one...

But there is a part of this world that isn't so sweet. Sometimes there are scammers out there. We want to keep things in the positive so we are just going to say this, if you are buying a bulldog, don't ship, don't pay upfront. Find out about your breeder, ask around. Ask the breeder who their vet is. Call them.

We heard a story tonight, and we don't want to repeat gossip, only just to say, please buyer be aware.

Bulldogs are the love of our lives, and we hope each and everyone of you find that love.

Getting a new puppy or adopting an older Bulldog?

Last night over dinner the pawrents (parents) and I had a discussion. We would love to have a house full of bulldogs, but practically it's not possible.

Daddy bought Mommy a new puppy for her birthday, which isn't for a month and 10 days away. We never forget that date or it's hell to pay.

We have been discussing adopting a foster dog. We have seen so much love and affection they give and truthfully, why not give them a chance.

While a puppy is bright shinny and new, sometimes an older dog is just as shinny with a few extra wrinkles.

Our decision is still up in the air, but I know we will be a multi bulldog home with endless love.

Stay tuned ...

Taking road trip 102

We have another house that we go to near the beach. The drive isn't that bad usually. However, since the accident Mom hates to drive me anywhere. She drove super slow the first time, now she drives like she is stealing something. Daddy told her "that badge is only good in small circles of children" you will get a ticket!

It is great to be home. We love our comfy chair and my big bed. Wait that's not right, it's her bed. Either way, the water tastes better at the other house but the rest is pretty sweet here.

Tomorrow we are shopping for our party favors and parts of my costume. I am excited. I think I should hire a DJ to spin some tunes.

Bulldogs and friends ...

This is a little story on how our bulldog and other breed friends have made an impact in our lives.

When we first got involved with the bulldog's we were very anxious to get together socially so we could bond with other play pals. We would attend a few meetups and play dates. It was a ball to see push faced dogs all snorting and playing.

We joined the local Bulldog Club and the National Club too. But we wanted pure fun, not all about the showing. So we decided to find our own fun...

We started a Twitter account so we could meet other friends and have some social media fun. One of our first friends was Falco. He was very funny. We next met Theo. We met him live and in person. His sister Rosie was recuperating so we didn't meet her. Theo is what Mom calls the total package. He is beautibull and entertaining. His bowl tricks are very cool. We watch his Vine video's often.

Then came the rest of the story. Over the next year we have met online and in person several bulldog families. We have laughed together and cried together, we have exchanged vet info, food info, home remedy, and most of all friendship.

Everyone has been a great blessing to us. Our local friends here in the Tampa area have been just a message away.

A bulldog family even helped when Mom started a new business.  After months of licensing and planning and much bone money, she was ready. On a visit to her new incubator location, she went to make something for the local friend in town, only to discover the doors were locked and no one could get it. Thankfully this happened when it did before that bone money turned into 10,000 x's Bone money.

It was a $$$ setback, but I gave her more bone money, and she was able to find a new incubator location (Cupcake, Pies, Cake-pops, Dog treats business) that was right before the accident.

Those same friends offered to assist us if we needed anything during our accident days. Many thanks to Theo and Rosie/family.

I bring this up because that is what I think of all the time when we are twittering and tweeting. The small things that MEAN a lot!! When I was interviewed about my social media and the twitter friends, I could only boost about the positives. We keep pictures of our buddies on our desk (yes we share one desk) and we laugh and smile when we read their daily activities.

As we begin to close this post, we want to say one thing. We love all animals, reptiles (turtles only) and some super cool mammals... However, our bulldog friends are near the top. Owning a bulldog is expensive, time consuming, heart wrenching, nerve wracking and so many other issues, I wouldn't trade it for the world. We have an unique breed, we need many friends to take this journey with us.

All we ask is you keep our wrinkles in your prayers and be kind to everyone!

We took a vacation for a short minute.

Mom packed up the rolling bags and off she went on a cruise to relax. I on the other hand packed my bags and went to stay with my Manny.

Mom was a bit offish as she left me, she didn't want kisses (budgees we call it) she said ok, I'm leaving. I snorted as she left and that was it for 5 long days. It was a short cruise to see if Mommy could relax from the accident.

Day one I was just getting my sister dogs in line with showing them who was boss. In turn they showed me who was in charge, them! I got to sleep in the big bedroom and it was great.

Night two, Mommy sent messages from the puter box asking about me. We took a few sad face pictures and sent them back. I was tired and ready to go to bed, but my Manny was busy sending stuff on the big box, so I went to bed alone. I was in there for a little while and decided he needed to go to bed, NOW. So I gathered him up and put him in time out for not going to sleeep on time.

Day three I decided that I wanted to try out for the Indy 500 on foot. I tore around the house and romped a bit.

Day four I was passed out from said Indy 500 tryouts. I lounged and ate num nums...

Day five my Mommy came and got me, I packed up my own toys and was eager to get in the car and go home. Once I was in my travel crate, I snorted and hissed as if to say, you left me, now suffer!

Once home, I sniffed and sniffed, and I paced back and forth. I wanted to make sure no one had been in our house. I finally settled down and then came night night time. I decided I was sleeping in the big bed with Mommy, except she had other plans, she said I get to sleep in Daddy's room again. But tomorrow night I move officially in to Mommy's room, whether she likes it or not!

Glad to be home, my Manny didn't tweet for me when I was being all cute because he couldnt stop laughing long enough. We are now getting ready for our family trip, I get to drive.

Rocco turned 7 with a slew of friends

We tried and tried to get the pictures straight. This isnt a good representation of all the peeps that came out for Rocco's party.

Rocco one lucky dude, he had an UK time zone party, and EST party and something in between. Today he is having a human party and we are so thrilled for  him.

He has set the bar high for birthday's I must say. Mommy has already consulted the party planner to make sure we have one half as good as his.

All the planners in the world couldn't have made his party any more special. It was so cool seeing all his friends come together.

No fights at the water bowl, no one lifted their leg or curled their lips. Only a couple of lipstick shots and one girly girl who shall remain nameless did a little hooch dance for the old bugger.

Awesome party, Birthday number 8 will be great for Rocco!!!!!!!!!!!

The Bulldog Party of the Year!
